An unissued performance by Dizzy Gillespie is generally a major event in the
jazz world because he is one of the true musical giants. At the time of this
previously unreleased recording, Gillespie was close to the halfway point of his
remarkable career, 46 at the time and very much in his musical prime. The group
featured on this album first began to form when saxophonist Leo Wright joined
Gillespie in 1959 and Lalo Schifrin was hired as his pianist the following year.
Bassist Chris White and drummer Rudy Collins became members of the Dizzy
Gillespie Quintet in 1962. By 1963 the quintet was awesome! One of Dizzy
Gillespies finest originals, Con Alma, is fully explored by this remarkable
quintet. A Night In Tunisia, Dizzys most famous piece, one can feel the
excitement build as one waits for Dizzys famous trumpet break; he does not
disappoint. With incredible live stereo sound, and liner notes by jazz
journalist/historian Scott Yanow, this album also does not disappoint! Produced
