 Early early work by The Isley Brothers – recorded for United Artists
in the early and mid 60s, in the years between their hit work for RCA and
Motown. The material here leans heavily on the Twist & Shout sound of the RCA
years – taking elements of R&B group styles, and forging them into a
tighter 60s soul approach – one that got a bit more sophisticated as the
years went on, but which was still very much in the party soul mode in which the
boys first made their mark. Theres a total of 16 tracks in all – nicely
packaged with good notes – and titles include Whatcha Gonna Do, Surf &
Shout, Please Please Please, Shes The One, Shake It With Me Baby, Whos That
Lady, My Little Girl, Love Is A Wonderful Thing, Open Up Her Eyes, and Shes
Gone.
