“A Full Rainbow of Light†is the title of an upcoming project
that is filled with the heartwarming feeling of being at home during Christmas.
The project contains many themes, stories and sounds that take me back to my
native Newfoundland and Labrador, to tradition and change, to warmth and winter,
to complexity and hope. The lyrics play an important role in recreating this
feeling. They describe how you can see the rising sun on your bedroom walls
after the leaves have fallen, and how dreams come to life when the person you
love bursts into the house. The project also represents an expansion of the
musical palette to include elements of traditional Newfoundland and Irish music.
Different instruments such as the uilleann pipes, accordion, guitar and fiddle
take part in the recording, creating a live sound full of history and human
voices. Overall, the project is a mixture of old and new sounds, creating the
atmosphere of a friendly party in a wooden room with a lit fireplace.
