20 years of music. What a great step in a bands life! Almost 1000 shows and 150
000 albums sold, sold out venues, unusual travels, plenty of festivals…
Danakil musicians have lived so many collective adventures and experiences!

One day, these cheerful high school friends set themselves the unlikely
challenge to start a reggae band from scratch. They each picked an instrument
and booked rehearsal slots at the local youth club. Little by little, DANAKIL
have managed to craft their music with the skills and inspirations of each
member of the band, playing in the pure tradition of the Jamaican roots of
reggae and singing in Molieres mother tongue. 20 years later, the band has
played on the biggest festivals’ stages in Europe! 

Despite the success, they’ve kept cool and share a unique and natural
bond with their fans and audience each time they play live, just as they did
when they started their career. This special vibe has undoubtedly contributed to
their success and raised them at the top of the French reggae scene,
distinguishing themselves with their unique sound and imprinting French reggae
with the seal of independence and militantism. 

As a matter of fact, DANAKIL’s group members have consistently been
trying to preserve their freedom of action, firstly by self-producing their
albums and then by endowing their own music label, Baco Records, which they
created in 2011. The label has been welcoming and supporting many musical
talents since its creation, by helping artists in all aspects of their career,
from recording to album production, distribution, promotion, digital and tour
managing...In short, there would be no such thing as celebrating Baco’s
20th birthday by reuniting DANAKIL on stage! 

They are hoping to start a festival tour as of May 2021 if the sanitary
conditions allow it. They will then start a club tour as of autumn. These gigs
were first planned for spring but had to be rescheduled due to the current
measures not allowing concerts to be held in a sustainable way. To celebrate
their anniversary in great style, and thanks to you, DANAKIL will be on stage at
the Olympia twice this year! 

The rescheduling of the tours also implies a delay in the releasing of the next
album which is now due for September 2021. You can already watch the first
available videoclips, and DANAKIL will continue to make you discover plenty of
new tracks until September.
To hold on together, the band decided to take advantage of the two recordings of
live streaming shows realised during the 2020 COVID period to release a
unplanned live album, LIVE A LA MAISON (out on May the 21st 2020)!
You can also dive into the book that retraces DANAKIL’s long path to
being what they are now: “DANAKIL ENSEMBLE: 2001/2021”, released on
November 16th 2020.
