Waiting on the Moon Roger Street Friedman is a singer, songwriter and activist based in Sea Cliff, New York, who restarted his music career in 2010 following the loss of his parents and the birth of his daughter. His critically acclaimed 2017 album, Shoot The Moon, reached #2 on the Roots Music Report Americana Country Album Chart. Wrote The Aquarian of that album: “If Shoot The Moon doesnt quite deserve masterpiece status, its at least close. His words are autobiographical, cinematic, blunt and honest. His music is folk-rock, raucous horn-rock, dreamy pop-rock, Progressive Americana and sweet soulful R&B. Think Jackson Brown without all the earnestness.†Friedman also garnered acclaim for his debut, The Waiting Sky (2014). Champions for the album included No Depression, American Songwriter, Relix Magazine, MSN, The Alternate Root, Elmore Magazine and the New York Daily News. Friedman has shared stages with such venerated artists as Los Lobos and The Blind Boys of Alabama. Friedman has recently performed at the Clearwater, Huntington and Falcon Ridge (Grassy Hill Emerging Artist) festivals as well as the United Nations and was a formal showcasing NERFA artist in 2019. Rise, his third full-length album, was produced by Larry Campbell. WHAT THE PRESS HAS SAID: “One moment he’s turning out harmonically rich Paul Simon-esque art-folk; the next he’s digging into the kind of good ‘n’ greasy Americana groove John Hiatt would kill for.†- Jim Allen, Culture Sonar “Friedman’s songs aren’t all feel-good anthems of unrelenting positivity. He sometimes sings about time and change and the ways that life can zoom by and leave us feeling like aliens on our own home turf. But even when he’s getting wistful Friedman sings with an earthy sweetness that can bring to mind Jackson Browne, the Avett Brothers, the Wallflowers, Phosphorescent, or Little Feat, with that mix of folk, blues, bayou soul, country, and a dash of Tex-Mex.†- John Adamian, Yes Weekly “While it’s hard to apply an exact comparison to his easily accessible sound, suffice it to say that James Taylor, Randy Newman and Jackson Browne all come to mind.†- Lee Zimmerman/Elmore Magazine
