With crossover success at home in South Africa, and the likes of Damon Albarn, Stormzy, Ghetts, DJ Target, Africa Express, and Diplo, championing his music internationally, MUZI has firmly established himself as one of the country’s hottest artists. Released on his own imprint WE.THE.BUNDU via !K7 and Sony Music Africa, ‘Afrovision’ is his second album, and follows his debut, ‘Boom Shaka’, the 2016 release which saw him tipped by The Fader, Mixmag, Vice, Afropunk, Complex, The Independent, and many more. The new single, ‘Nu Day’ featuring Okmalumkoolkat is available from 28/3 while ‘Afrovision’ is due on 11/5, ahead of summer shows including Womad. ‘Afrovision’ was written and recorded exclusively in South Africa, MUZI having returned there after time in Berlin and Europe. His music remains deeply inspired by his upbringing – a tale of striving through adversity in the semi-rural township of Empangeni in KwaZulu-Natal, where he’d have to ride for miles to get internet access to send demos to record labels – but MUZI’s return ‘home’ has had a profound effect on his music and songwriting, reflecting the optimism and energy of the burgeoning SA music scene(s). In 2018 MUZI released the first single from the album “Chocolate Dreams†featuring Una Rams and Saint Seaba. This distinct Afro-house track was only a small taste of the range and diversity that MUZI has brought out on AFROVISION. Today we see the release of MUZI’s second single “Nu Day†featuring electronic hip-hop sensation and tastemaker Okmalumoolkat.
