31. One of the biggest pop stars of the early '60s, was a musical prodigy whose versatility was evidenced not just with the pop ballads that were her biggest hits, but also with her performances of straight country, R&B and some surprisingly fierce rockabilly. In a very natural manner, effortlessly emotes an energy and feeling that ranges from heartbreak to fiery passion. When we look back and think of country artists like Hank Williams, Jim Reeves, and Patsy Cline as singing the "country blues", Lee established a style that can only be referred to as "country soul." What is indeed truly remarkable about this body of work is that she reached such a height of success and professionalism between the tender ages of 12 and 16. Her career in music spans more than fifty years, but she made her most enduring recordings at a very young age, between 1956 and 1961
32. This quintessential release features two of ’s finest albums from her earliest and most inspired years: Miss Dynamite , and Emotions . Here she reflects the many moods that make up her repertoire, from sensitive ballads to lilting rhythm pieces, and powerful rockers contrasted with engaging novelties. It contains several hits which helped Lee establish her title as “the female Elvis,” such as “I’m Sorry,” “Dynamite,” “Sweet Nothin’s,” “Will You Love Me Tomorrow?” and “Swanee River Rock,” among others. These formidable albums have been remastered and packaged together in this very special collector’s edition, which also includes 5 bonus tracks from the same period
