The film marks the fiction directorial debut of documentarian Roger Ross Williams and stars Gael García Bernal, Roberta Colindrez, Joaquín Cosío, Perla De La Rosa and Raúl Castillo. The movie tells the real-life story of Saúl Armendáriz, a gay amateur wrestler from El Paso, who rises to international stardom after he creates the character Cassandro, the “Liberace of Lucha Libre.” Ross Williams also co-wrote the screenplay with David Teague. Gerardo Gatica , Todd Black , David Bloomfield, Ted Hope and Julie Goldman are producing the project. Cassandro will premiere this weekend at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival before making its debut on Prime Video later this year
