1. This re-issue of two former albums of mine is in a sense a retrospective. The earliest track "Renee" was recorded in April 1958 and the most recent track "I Thought About You" was recorded in my Twickenham studio on August 19th 1998. Thus the music spans a period of over forty-one years. The album Looking Out was first released on vinyl in New York in 1961 and Jazz Bass Baroque was recorded at my former studios in Hoxton Square, London in 1988. Though I have a following of sorts, I have never enjoyed much commercial success. And in such an esoteric art as jazz, where even the most successful of jazz musicians have seldom reached the megastar status often given to the rock and pop idols, my apparent lack of outward success has given rise to much loneliness. Nevertheless, I passionately believe in my own abilities, and have embarked on aspects of playing that the more commercial record companies would never have allowed. When I first made the Looking Out album, I sent copies around to the various jazz labels but was unsuccessful in getting it launched that way. I finally formed my own label "Wave" which despite vicissitudes still manages to keep afloat. Thus was Looking Out first launched. In my first attempts to find an interested company a former friend suggested I contact Henry Mancini who was responsible for one of the US major jazz labels at the time. "Send it to Hank on my recommendation” she advised. This I duly did and waited for about a month. Then one day the tape was returned with a pencilled note "Very good, but will earth people buy it ?"

3. Upon reflection, this is a jazz album with a difference and of course I hope that you, the listener, will enjoy it. it is my hope also that it finds a place in the more unusual aspects of recorded jazz
