Curtain Time was originally issued on vinyl in 1968, as MCA/Universal was trying
to make every last penny they could off the Jack Jones catalog that they
acquired from Kapp. This CD features an excellent mix of showtunes that Jones
recorded, and theyre not all the predictable ones youve seen repeated in recent
years for Greatest Hits collections. Its especially good to see titles from the
Nelson Riddle and Billy May collaborations included here, since Jones gets far
too little recognition for the legendary talent he worked with, and the amazing
material he recorded, while such a very young vocalist with Kapp. For some of
these songs, this is the first and only time theyve been remastered for CD, so
theres much worthwhile about this compilation, even if its price tag is rather
steep.
