With each of thesp blues selections, Dakota creates a capsule portrait of all
the hard-luck gals, ever. Her magical knack for involving the listener
emotionally in her blues is wonderful. And no less outstanding is the way in
which she captures one in the mood of her straight ballads. As long as the
message is true, and can be felt, Dakota ran feel it, fervently, and can take
the listener right along with her. 

Here she sings especially moving songs that might have been written with her
voice in mind. And the backing is varied to best suit her style in each one. In
Someone to Watch Over Mr, Why Don’t You Think Things Over, I’ll
Know, and Time Was, Sid Feller’s strings and harp with rhythm provide
just the right kind of airiness to enhance her intense feeling, A bund of brass,
reeds, and rhythm, conducted by Fddie Wilcox, accompanies her in the other eight
selections — bluesy, mellow, yet driving in the right places to give
special punctuations to her most ardent expressions.

As for Dakota, she puls her indelible imprint on every song, turning each lyric,
each phrase, into something that’s heartfelt and personal, but meaningful
to everyone.
