Continental Drift A fine Japanese jazz drummer, Motohiko Hino teams up with brother cornetist Terumasa Hino and an interesting group of American players (Dave Liebman on tenor and soprano, guitarists Mike Stern and Marc Muller, Karen Mantler on organ and harmonica, and electric bassist Steve Swallow) for four of his originals, Thelonious Monks I Mean You, and no less than four tunes by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards! Perhaps Hinos main desire was to search the rock repertoire for viable jazz tunes, but he does not find much here unless there are some listeners who really want to hear a jazz version of (I Cant Get No) Satisfaction. Liebman and Terumasa Hino have their spots, but Karen Mantler proves to be a rather lightweight player. An intriguing but now obscure effort. Bass – Steve Swallow Cornet – Terumasa Hino Drums – Toko Hino Electric Guitar – Marc Muller, Mike Stern Organ, Harmonica – Karen Mantler Tenor Saxophone, Sopranino Saxophone – Dave Liebman
