Chanteur et acteur, idole pour adolescents des années cinquante, Pat Boone
est surtout connu pour avoir popularisé des titres dartistes
afro-américains en ces temps de ségrégation radiophonique. Sa
carrière débute en 1954 lorsquil a vingt ans, son premier numéro un
intervient lannée suivante avec une reprise de « Aint That a Shame » de
Fats Domino. Version édulcorée de Elvis Presley dont il est le principal
concurrent, Pat Boone popularise les titres de Little Richard « Tutti Frutti
» et « Long Tall Sally ». Son dernier tube date de 1961 avec « Moody
River », Pat Boone disparaissant ensuite du devant de la scène. Il
soriente ensuite vers une country chrétienne au fort accent patriotique, et
sort toujours régulièrement des albums dont Hopeless Romantic orienté
crooner en 2006 . Avec une telle carrière, il nest pas étonnant de trouver
un tombereau de compilations consacrées à Pat Boone, Greatest Hits en 2010
satisfaisant parfaitement aux besoins les plus pressants.
