“Exaudia” – Definition: A king concedes audience and
fulfills a wish that is petitioned.
“Exaudia” is an album inspired by the history of Spain in the
1500’s and its expulsion of Sephardic tribes throughout all of Europe and
North Africa.
The musical tracks for “Exaudia” were composed, performed, recorded,
produced, mixed and mastered in Los Angeles and all of Lisa Gerrard’s
vocals were recorded out of her personal studio in Melbourne.
Marcello De Francisci is a composer based in Los Angeles, California. His
studies furthermore career began as a visual artist while attending fine arts at
an institution founded by the famed Baroque painter Bartolome Esteban Murillo in
Seville, Spain. He later furthered his education at the “Universidad
Complutense” in Madrid in addition taught himself music to discover his
true passion was to score soundtracks for the motion picture industry. In 2006
he won the “Best Soundtrack of the Year G.A.N.G. Award” for his work
on Sony Computer Entertainment’s “God of War” game. Soon
after he partnered up with Golden Globe Winner (singer for “Dead Can
Dance” / composer for “Gladiator”) Lisa Gerrard. Both of them
co-wrote numerous motion picture soundtracks scores together in addition
collaborated on a solo album project titled “Departum”. Since he has
scored a slate of award winning films including Natalie Portman’s first
Western genre film titled “Jane Got A Gun” and the anticipated
sequel to “Baraka” art house feature documentary
“Samsara”. He is a recipient of two Australian Film Critic’s
Circle Awards for his work on “Balibo”, “Oranges &
Sunshine” and his music has licensed on an array of motion picture trailer
advertising campaigns including the Russo Brother’s
“Avengers-Endgame”, Ridley Scott’s “Exodus”,
James Cameron’s “Avatar”, Jerry Bruckheimer’s
“National Treasure” and Guillermo Del Toro’s
“Hellboy”. Marcello De Francisci on the project: "For quite some
time I had been playing around with the idea of composing a brand new track to
Lisa Gerrard’s vocals on “Diary for the Fallen”. I wanted a
darker and more brooding version, which could be attributed to somewhat
influenced by Hans Zimmer’s “Time” from the
“Inception” soundtrack without plagiarizing his work. I wondered
what would it would have sound like if Lisa Gerrard had sung on something of
this nature, in addition pushing the envelope even further by writing an aria
towards the end of this piece including orchestra, choirs and percussion, which
would result in one grand finale. It had to be something completely our own.
This track now titled “Fallen” was the beginning and a part of what
would ultimately become “Exaudia”. In recent years I have written a
lot of Epic Orchestral, Choral-Percussive music therefore proceeded to
introduced some of those colors to this album, accompanied by the beautifully,
written, crafted and executed vocals Lisa Gerrard provided filling this
collection of pieces with haunting-mystery and longing. It has been an absolute
gift to work alongside Lisa once again on this work, which we very much geared
with the intention to inspire her fan base both on the listening and cinematic
end."
