This recording "Explorer" was born out of Kate and Émilie’s
shared passion for traditional music. From their base in Montréal, they
explore the fiddle repertoire along the road that links their origins, from
Québec to the Atlantic provinces. Kate was born in Newfoundland of local and
Scottish parents, and her family is now settled in Prince Edward Island.
Émilie was born in Québec, with ancestors from France and from Jersey via
Gaspé, her family now rooted in the Lanaudière region. These ancestral and
family connections can be felt in the two fiddlers’ different bowing
styles and accents, which are reflected in the word play of the duo’s
name, Archetype Trad, archet being the French word for a violin bow.
