Pianist See Siang Wong completes his Beethoven trilogy with "Unheard". The third
album features unfinished, previously unheard works by Beethoven. In his
sketchbooks, which he always carried with him, Beethoven jotted down ideas and
musical experiments that he often never realised and which have survived today
as fragments in libraries and private collections all over the world. "Unheard"
brings together reconstructions and rarities based on such sketches. They show
Beethoven's incredible wealth of ideas and his creative power.

The album includes the Piano Sonata op. 109 in E major, which was composed by
the Swiss pianist and composer Jürg Wyttenbach on the basis of Beethoven's
own sketches; the "Composition in D major", long thought to be lost, about which
See Siang Wong says: "You can tell from the manuscript that Beethoven worked
intensively on this work. It contains many comments on his musical ideas as well
as numerous corrections and variations. In my opinion, this unfinished work by
the young Beethoven is one of the most groundbreaking and exciting from this
creative period." Also on the album is the "Concerto in D major for pianoforte"
with orchestra, which the influential musicologist Guido Adler discovered in
1888 and attributed to Beethoven. Nowadays, there are still debates as to who
the composer of this lively, joyful piece was: Beethoven or perhaps the composer
himself?

A highlight of the album is certainly the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in D
major No. 6, which See Siang Wong recorded with the Camerata Schweiz and
conductor Howard Griffiths in 2021. It is reminiscent of the famous Piano
Concerto No. 5 and the Choral Fantasy. Here, too, the piano plays some
large-scale cadenzas and march rhythms. Most likely inspired by the political
situation in Europe at the time, it also already displays characteristics of the
symphonic concerto.

An album with works by Beethoven that you have never heard before!
