Considéré comme l’un des plus fins trompettistes de la scène hexagonale, doté d’une sonorité qui combine l’assurance et la tendresse, Fabien Mary fait l’unanimité pour l’excellence de son jeu et sa synthèse personnelle de l’influence des grands trompettistes fondateurs du be-bop et du cool, Chet Baker, Miles Davis, Kenny Dorham, Clifford Brown ou Art Farmer, sans pour autant se laisser enfermer dans une filiation. Membre de nombreuses grandes formations, notamment du Paris Jazz Big Band de Nicolas Folmer et Pierre Bertrand et du big band de Michel Pastre, cofondateur du Vintage Orchestra, il a eu l’occasion, au gré de son parcours, d’enrichir son expérience auprès de musiciens tels que Wynton Marsalis, Diana Krall, Benny Golson, Harold Mabern, Johnny Griffin, Steve Turre, Michel Legrand ou Archie Shepp. Instrumentiste accompli et sûr, soliste aux longues lignes fluides et aériennes, d’une élégance incontestable et d’un lyrisme parfaitement maitrisé, Fabien Mary développe également des talents d’arrangeur à la plume précise et captivante.
