Good Love The only female rocker of the 1950s to blow Wanda Jackson out of the water, Virginia native Janis Martin earned her moniker as “the female Elvisâ€. Janis’ sobriquet alone fostered great expectations for the young performer in the 1950s. As the fusion of R&B and country evolved into rockabilly, and a charge of primarily male artists heralded its arrival, she was a rarity – though her musicianship, charismatic stage persona and a series of memorable recordings meant the annals of history would not dismiss her as a novelty. This quintessential collector’s edition includes 30 remastered studio tracks, consisting of the sensational recordings Janis Martin made for RCA-Victor and the Palette labels between 1956 and 1960. Her vocal abilities, witty lyrics, and all-star accompaniment (featuring the same Nashville session players that Elvis Presley used on some of his most famous hits) proved a stellar combination. The impressive guitar legend Chet Atkins is featured here, in addition to a virtual who’s who of great sidemen including guitarist Grady Martin, bassist Bob Moore, pianist Floyd Cramer and Elvis’ original backing group, The Jordanaires, among others. These underrated gems are widely regarded as the finest work of Martin’s career and among the greatest hot numbers of rock & roll’s golden era.
