Lyricson, born Souleymane Boukara in 1979 in Guinea, released his album
African Dream on October 2, coinciding with Guinea's Independence Day. The album
blends African musical traditions with influences from the U.S., Europe, and
Jamaica. Starting his music journey in Guinea, Lyricson moved to Liberia and
later to Boston, collaborating with European producers.
The track Black Man Liberation combines roots reggae with African melodies.
Other highlights include Strickly Love with djembe and electric guitar solos,
and Africa Rise Up featuring talking drums by Abdoulaye Sissoko. Farafina
showcases Mamadi Diabaté on kora and Sekouba Kandia Kouyaté’s
vocals.
Jamaican influences are clear in Jah Glory and What A World, recorded in
Kingston, with contributions from Duane Stephenson and Dean Fraser. Jah Mason
features on Peace And Meditation, while Lion’s Roar and African Queen
highlight the album's diversity.
The themes include love (No One Can), spirituality (Mystically), and
encouragement (One Step Away). The album closes with Black Man Liberation Dub
mixed by Gaylard Bravo, showcasing the seamless integration of reggae and
African music.
