Jules Reidy collaborates with seasoned Italian percussionist Andrea Belfi
on dessus oben alto up, blending Reidy's innovative guitar work and microtonal
chimes with Belfi's textured, modular rhythmic grooves. Recorded during a
residency at Berlin's Callie's, the album pays tribute to the late Dean Roberts
and showcases their synergistic creative process.
Reidy, known for infusing pop and kosmiche elements into avant-garde guitar
landscapes, complements Belfi's decades-long exploration of percussive textures.
The opening track, "dessus," sets a contemplative tone with fingerpicked
melodies and organ-like chimes. This gives way to "oben," an intense piece
marked by drones, arpeggios, and driving rhythms. The standout "alto" captures
the duo's peak, melding 12-string acoustic riffs, brass-toned synths, and
Belfi's dynamic drum rolls. The track evolves into a cosmic-folk crescendo,
blending earthy strums with celestial synth blips, highlighting the duo's
seamless interplay.
