The Canadian country singer Hank Snow was born as Clarence Eugene Snow in
Liverpool, Nova Scotia, in 1914. At the tender age of twelve, Hank left home and
worked as a cabin boy with the Merchant Marine, where he also learned to play
the guitar. His lifelong role model was and remained the legendary Jimmie
Rodgers. After his time in the navy, he played in the clubs of Nova Scotia as
the Yodelling Ranger, later as The Singing Ranger, a moniker he kept for life.
In 1934 Hank Snow played on a radio program for the first time, but only
recorded his first songs, all written by himself, for RCA/Canada in October
1936. This became the basis for a lifelong relationship with this record label.
In his nearly five-decade-long career, Hank Snow recorded over 800 songs and
sold more than 86 million records worldwide. Im Moving On was the breakthrough
and still is his greatest hit, reaching the #1-spot on the country charts in
1950. That same year Hank Snows second number 1 The Golden Rocket entered the
charts. The Rhumba Boogie, released in 1951, was the third #1 in a row. Hank
Snow died shortly before Christmas 1999 at the age of 85.

In this box you experience the legendary country star in his greatest creative
phase. More than 70 titles by Hank Snow found their way into the American
country charts between 1949 and 1975. His tours took him around the world. The
Rolling Stones also took Im Moving On, which resulted in Hank conquering the pop
charts. In addition to Jimmie Rodgers and Hank Williams, Hank Snow was
undoubtedly one of the greats of country music.
