This is a monumental album by Teresa Teng released at the peak of her career in
1981 under the power production house of then-PolyGram Records. This is the 7th
instalment of the Island Love Song series and served as the soundtrack to the
movie "If I Was Real" which, incidentally, gave Alam Tam the 'Best Actor' Golden
Horse Award (Academy equivalent in Taiwan). Besides the title track and Jia Ru
Meng Er Shi Zhen De featured in the movie, this album spawned further hits such
as Shan Cha Hua (tune to Dong Lian), Bie Li and the China folk song Yao Qu Yao
Yuan De Di Fang. The most underated track is probably the last song, Meng
(Dream), with wonderful horn section blasting during the introduction. A classic
in its own right just from the album cover design - you cannot miss the contrast
of the cheerful Teresa against the backdrop of the heavy blue. The engineering
of this album is remarkably superb, even on the original vinyl LP record and
cassette - and the marvel of technology has allowed fans of Teresa the privilege
of enjoying the charm of her vocals and beauty of the tunes penned by veterans
such as Zhuang Nu, Weng Qing Xi and the like. Once you put the needle on this
record, you will not want to lift it up!
